Austin's roofing market is one of the most competitive in Texas. Tons of roofers, tons of marketing noise, and tons of out-of-state storm chasers between any two major hail events. Pricing is all over the map. Here's what an honest 2026 Austin roof replacement actually costs.

Average asphalt shingle replacement: $11,000–$26,000

For a typical 2,000–2,800 sq ft Austin home with a moderate-complexity roof, expect $13,000–$19,000 for a standard architectural asphalt replacement in 2026. Austin pricing trends slightly higher than San Antonio because of labor cost differences and traffic logistics.

By neighborhood

Westlake, Tarrytown, Rollingwood (78746)

Larger homes, often custom builds with complex rooflines and premium standards. Replacements run $18,000–$32,000 for architectural; $40,000+ for designer profiles. ARC and HOA requirements are real here.

Cedar Park, Leander (78613, 78641)

1990s-2000s subdivisions hitting replacement age. Average Cedar Park replacement runs $12,000–$17,000 for typical 2,200–2,800 sq ft homes. Steady residential demand year-round.

Round Rock, Pflugerville (78664, 78665, 78660)

I-35 corridor subdivisions with heavy storm cell exposure. Average Round Rock replacement runs $12,000–$18,000. Active new construction market on the east side.

Central Austin (78704, 78701, 78702)

Older homes, often with cedar shake conversions to asphalt or original metal. Lots of variability — $13,000–$22,000 is the typical range. Many central-Austin homes have access constraints (narrow alley access, large trees) that affect labor cost.

Bee Cave, Lakeway, Dripping Springs (78738, 78734, 78620)

Hill Country edge of the Austin metro. Larger homes, often standing-seam metal or premium tile. $20,000–$45,000 is common.

What drives the Austin price

Labor cost vs San Antonio

Austin's labor costs are noticeably higher than San Antonio's, even for the same skill level. That alone adds 10–15% on top of San Antonio pricing for the same scope of work.

Hail-claim cycles

Hill Country hail tracks that hit Boerne and Bulverde frequently push east into the Austin metro. Storm season pricing can spike materially when crews are slammed with claim work.

HOA / ARC requirements

Tarrytown, Mueller, several Westlake associations, Steiner Ranch — these all have shingle color and material requirements. Pre-submission is required and adds a small admin cost (and a lot of delay if you skip it).

Material grade matters

Metal roof replacement: $26,000–$60,000

Standing-seam 20–24 gauge metal in Austin runs roughly $30,000–$55,000 for a typical home. Hill Country-edge homes in Bee Cave and Dripping Springs are major metal markets — both for aesthetic and for hail performance.
