Short answer: a single hail event damages thousands of roofs in a few hours, and the regional crew capacity to replace them does not change. Expect waits of weeks to months, expect out of area operators to arrive within days, and do not let urgency drive the contractor decision.

The arithmetic

A significant hail event across the north side of San Antonio or the Boerne to Bulverde corridor can damage thousands of roofs in twenty minutes. The number of qualified crews in the region is fixed. Even working flat out, clearing that demand takes months.

That is not contractors taking advantage. It is capacity meeting a sudden spike.

What happens in the first two weeks

That last one is the dangerous part, because urgency is exactly the condition under which people sign things they have not read.

What actually needs to happen fast

Only two things:

Choosing a contractor is not on that list. Getting into a queue is fine. Signing a contract in a driveway under pressure is not.

Why waiting for the right contractor is usually better

Your workmanship warranty is worth exactly as much as the company's likelihood of existing when you need it. A crew in town for the season cannot honor a ten year warranty. Our local versus storm chaser comparison covers how to tell them apart.

A roof that is tarped and documented is stable. There is no technical reason to rush the decision.

How to use the wait

The off season advantage

If your damage is not urgent, booking into a quieter period gets you better scheduling and more attention. Winter in Central Texas is genuinely a good window, which we covered in winter roof replacement.
